Smashing Magazine has a great article about tweaking Gimp via plug-ins so it has PhotoShop features many miss when moving over to it.

http://tuxgeek.me/ has a nice post about Linux viruses. Evidently there are about 30 known Linux viruses which was funny to me considering there are almost 100,000 known viruses for Windows. I wish more people ran Linux, it is such a great OS. My favorite quote in the article is: “there’s a Linux antivirus called Clam AntiVirus. Which is completely useless, because finding a Linux virus in the wild is like finding a unicorn in your backyard with a map of Atlantis on its forehead.”

Note he had a solid state drive and “total boot time from pressing power to Firefox loaded was about 22.5 seconds, with about 5 seconds of BIOS display on a Thinkpad. Subtracting out the Thinkpad BIOS display time, that means that Ubuntu 9.04 booted into Firefox in about 17.5 seconds. I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with this hard drive. Oh, and Ubuntu 9.04 looks really interesting too.” Read more

Don’t know what Boxee is? Check out this video…
1. Go to System > Administration > Software Sources.
2. In Sources Software dialogue, select Third-Party Software tab, click Add, and enter:
* for Gutsy: deb http://apt.boxee.tv gutsy main
* for Hardy: deb http://apt.boxee.tv hardy main
* for Jaunty: deb http://apt.boxee.tv jaunty main
3. After closing this dialogue you can either use Synaptics and select Boxee for download, or use a terminal window, and enter sudo apt-get install boxee.
To run Boxee, Applications > Sound & Video > Boxee
