Have you ever driven down the highway when there’s construction work going on and wondered who makes all the money from selling the orange barrels used to block off lanes? That’s a lot of barrels. So many barrels, in fact, that a student at NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina helped himself to three of them and constructed this most-excellent Barrel Monster. The construction company he stole the barrels from wasn’t amused and 21-year-old Joseph Carnevale (even his name is fun!) was arrested. According to The Smoking Gun, “Police estimated that Carnevale’s artwork caused $360 in damages to Hamlett Associates, the North Carolina construction company that owned the barrels.” So those barrels cost $120 each?

“The sheer volume of information stored on Wikipedia is massive. A text based archive of the English version takes up 2.5GB and if you include images, that number jumps to over 78GB. If you were to print out the whole thing (not just the featured articles), this is what it would look like based on volumes 25cm high and 5cm thick (some 400 leaves), each page having two columns, each columns having 80 rows, and each row having 50 characters.” Source:http://www.spreadingjam.com/

I learned on Friday that what is pictured above is called a lanyard. Why do we need a word like “lanyard”? Can’t we just call it a strap connected to a badge? Did you know about lanyards? I took Human Physiology in High School because like every other High School boy I was interested in that subject (we’ll stop there). The class was pretty interesting and we had to memorize the names and location of bones, muscles, and nerves. My favorite word used to be duodenum (first section of the small intestine) but now I’m thinking lanyard.
